Breakfast

Breakfast |2009|

pyjamas, food, plates, frying pan, radio

Four people find themselves in a public place that has been changed into a private place (a kitchen in IKEA), and eat breakfast.  At first glance, this action seems trivial but in reality it has a deeper meaning. Breakfast is an important way of  making a good start to the day. Four people enter a lifeless kitchen and add meaning to it. They cook and talk. A form of communication is created. This public place becomes a private one and vice versa. The borders between these two different places disappear, resulting in a specific type of media in space. The process of conscious observation begins to merge with that of observing unnoticed. Art finds itself in the same world, touches on the same subjects and themes.  It is a way of building new situations, and creating a history between people. Breakfast is a pretext for a dialog, creating relationships between people, making both sides feel comfortable with each other. It determines the relationship between that which is one’s own and that which is shared.
